Ernesto Bustamante Velarde is currently the Project Coordinator of the Marine Governance Program and the Conservamos por Naturaleza (We Conserve by Nature) Initiative of the Peruvian Society for Environmental Law since January 2024.
Ernesto is an Environmental Engineer from the Universidad Agraria La Molina and holds a Master’s Degree in Environmental Management from the University of New South Wales – Australia. He has more than twelve years of experience in project management related to conservation, sustainability, education, culture and social research, as well as in the preparation of environmental impact studies and the implementation of environmental management plans. He has also completed postgraduate courses in integrated marine and coastal zone management, sustainable development management and agribusiness management.
As Project Coordinator and Manager, he is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the activities of the Blue Action Fund, Oceankind and Ocean Defenders projects, as well as the Conservamos por la Naturaleza initiatives.
His achievements include the IDB Challenge Awards for the Abono Limpio initiative (Peru) and the Scalesia Foundation Awards (Ecuador) for the implementation of educational projects in the Galapagos Islands. He was also one of the winners of the 2012 Australian Government Scholarships, through the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), to study for his Master’s degree in Australia.
