Yesenia Chumbe Cedeño currently serves as Technical Coordinator of the Fisheries Project of the Marine Governance Program of the Peruvian Society of Environmental Law since 2022.
Yesenia is a biologist with a major in hydrobiology and fisheries, with a specialization in Fisheries Management and Administration from the University of Kagoshima, Japan & OFCF and graduated from the Master in Environmental Sciences with a major in Management and Environmental Planning of the Territory from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM). She has experience in public policies, fisheries management and fisheries management. With a Diploma in Management and Public Finance (ESAN), studies in design, implementation and monitoring of public policies and specialization in regulatory impact analysis (ESAN, PUCP, Universidad de Lima). She has more than 10 years of experience in the fisheries sector and has worked in various management positions in the Ministry of Production, among them, she has been general director of Policy and Regulatory Analysis in Fisheries and Aquaculture, Advisor to the Vice-Ministerial Office of Fisheries and Aquaculture, director of Studies and Economic Rights in Fisheries and Aquaculture, and director of Competitiveness and Sectoral Liaison.
As technical coordinator, she has been promoting the development and implementation of initiatives and interventions of the Por la Pesca project to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing in the fisheries of perico, pota and benthic resources in Peru, and tuna and dorado in Ecuador; she also conducts research to promote proposals to improve the management of fishery resources.
It formulated and promoted the approval of fishing regulations for perico and benthic resources and implemented mechanisms for active citizen participation in the formulation of regulatory projects. It also promoted initiatives related to hake fishing management and the formalization of the artisanal squid fleet within the scope of the RFMO-PS.
